"We salute you!"

Last Patrol volunteers honored Frank Washington Jr., a Vietnam Army veteran in hospice care.


Frank was born in August 1950, in Charleston, SC. He enlisted in the Army in 1970 and subsequently underwent training at Fort Jackson, SC. Upon completing training, he was deployed to Chu Lai, Central Vietnam, as part of the Americal Division. Frank served with the 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, an armored cavalry unit attached to the Americal Division during the war. Serving as a Field Wireman in the Signal Corps, Frank was tasked with installing, maintaining, and recovering communication lines in a combat environment. 


His final assignment was with A Company, 67th Signal Battalion, stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, part of the 5th U.S. Army. On October 12, 1971, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He received several commendations for his service.


Following his military service, Frank became self-employed, specializing in concrete work and car detailing. He is happily married to his wife, Rena, and together they have six children.

In his leisure time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and football.
