Last Patrol volunteers honored Harold "Hank" Nix, an Air Force and Army veteran in hospice care.
Hank was born in 1938 in Greenville, SC, and grew up in a family of five. After graduating high school, he entered military service in December 1955, beginning a distinguished career that spanned more than two decades.
Hank first enlisted in the Air Force, where he trained and served as an electrician. His initial assignment took him to South Korea, working in the Communications Center in support of American forces stationed in the region. Upon completing his Air Force enlistment, he joined the Army, once again working in the communications field. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge.
Not yet ready to conclude his military journey, Hank then joined the Air Force Reserve, where he served as an aircraft loader at Charleston Air Force Base. He retired from the U.S. military after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
Following his military career, Hank transitioned into civilian work and spent many years driving 18-wheelers and dump trucks.
Hank was married and is the proud father of one son, who sadly passed away. He also has two stepsons and a stepdaughter. In his personal time, he enjoys playing the guitar and harmonica, and finds comfort and inspiration in reading his Bible.
We salute you, Sir, as you proceed on your Last Patrol.
