“I was with good men. I’m proud I served.”

Last Patrol volunteers honored Joe Hutchins, an Army veteran in hospice care.

Joe was born in 1931. He lost his father at a young age, so he and his 5 brothers were raised by their month.  Patriotism was bred into the family, and Joe decided to enlist in the Army. He served from 1951 – 1953 in the 2nd Armored Division during the Cold War.

We presented Joe with a Last Patrol Honor Ceremony kit, including a Congressional Letter we read to him from @Senator Tom Tillis. Joe remembers his time in service as a period of brotherhood and comradeship. “I was with good men,” he explained about his military duty.

“I’m proud I served.”

After military service, Joe married and had 4 children. His civilian career was in the Textile Industry.

We salute you, Sir, as you proceed on your Last Patrol.
