Honor

Last Patrol volunteers visited and honored 99 y/o Charles Ericson, a WWII Coast Guard veteran in hospice care. We presented him & his family several patriotic gifts.

Charles served as Carpenter's Mate on the USS Dearborn, U.S. Coast Guard. He served from 1943-1945 with duty in the North Atlantic on submarine watch. Still proud of his service, he recalled: "I took care of all tasks below deck!" Following WWII, he went on to serve with NYPD, retiring after 20 years. He and his family moved to Florida, and he worked an additional 20 years as a Broward County Public Schools, Florida, School Resource Officer.

Charles is a Mason, Shriner, and, according to his family, a "Jack of all trades."

Sadly, Charles wife passed a little over a year ago. They had been married 73 years. They had 4 sons. And also have 6 grandkids and 10 great grandchildren.

We salute you, Sir, as you continue on your Last Patrol.
