Last Patrol volunteers honored Kenneth Richardson, an Army Vietnam veteran in hospice care. Our team presented him with several patriotic gifts. It's a beautiful thing when lots of family can attend our Honor Ceremonies.
Ken was born in 1950, in Cuba City, WI. He grew up on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work, honesty, and dedication. He graduated from Potosi High School in 1968. He married his high-school sweetheart, Dianna a year later.
In 1970, Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army. While in training, happily learning he was soon to be a father. A daughter was born a few months later. Later in 1970, Ken was deployed to Vietnam, stationed near An Khe with Company A, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor, 2nd Armored Division. His Tank Company provided firepower support, patrols, and convoy/road security, and saw regular combat action. He completed his tour and was honorably discharged in OCT 1971.
After returning home to SW Wisconsin, Ken devoted himself to his family and work. He and Dianna raised their three children. Beyond his paid work, Ken gave his loved ones the gift of his time and talent. He crafted rocking chairs, hope chests, custom cribs, toddler chairs even a special outdoor bar and outhouse.
Later, as his pace slowed, Ken still found joy in the simple things: working on small wood projects, watching professional football, fishing, camping, and spending time with his 3 grandchildren.
Forever proud. Forever remembered.
We salute you, Ken, as you proceed on your Last Patrol.
